Lumb Hole. Yorkshire.

20th May 2007

Following our trip to Hardcastle Crags Jim and I took a quick look at another local spot where three streams combine to form Crimsworth Dean Beck.

Once again the water had the rich peaty properties that caught my eye earlier.

Fortunately the water level was low which allowed me to wade into the stream to a spot I suspect would have been impossible if it had been in spate.

Possibly one of the most useful, non photographic, bits of my gear are a good pair of wellington boots.

Lumb Hole, Yorkshire. Landscape photography by Gary Waidson.

The times I have used them to wade into position through streams, mud, bogs or surf I have lost count of.

There really is no substitute for being in the right position to take a photograph. All too often I have heard people talking about how a zoom lens gets you closer to your subject. Nonsense... all a zoom lens does is change the angle of view, it’s your feet that get you closer and if you don’t want to get your feet wet then wellingtons are the way to go.
